William R. Mapother (born: April 17, 1965) is an American actor and former teacher. Mapother is a graduate of University of Notre Dame. He taught school in East Los Angeles for three years before becoming an actor. He played the character Ethan Rom in the TV series Lost.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky he is a cousin of Tom Cruise and has served as a production assistant in many of his films. Like his cousin, he completed a course in the Church of Scientology in 1989. His father, William, Sr., is an attorney and bankruptcy consultant and was a judge in Louisville in the 1960s.
