He is the son of actor, director Dwight Hauser 1911-1969 and the father of actor Cole Hauser. He began his acting career in 1977 in the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless as J. D. Hauser and . He has appeared in forty one television series including recurring roles in Beverly Hills 90210, Murder She Wrote and Roseanne. Hauser is married to actress Cali Hauser.
