| Zara Cully (January 26, 1892 - February 28, 1978) was an American character actress. She was best known for her portrayal of Olivia (‘Mother’) Jefferson on the TV sitcom The Jeffersons. When Cully passed away, her death was not incorporated into the show directly. In the later years of the show, it was mentioned that Mother Jefferson had passed away, but there was no episode about her death. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and died in Los Angeles, California of cancer. Ms. Cully was sometimes credited as Zara Cully Brown.
