Adrian Peterson (b. March 21, 1985 in Palestine, Texas) is an American football running back. He plays for the University of Oklahoma. During his senior year in high school most college scouting reports ranked him the top recruit in the country. Some even said he was the best high school recruit in the last ten years. During his freshman season, Peterson broke many NCAA freshman rushing records and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, finishing second to USC Quarterback Matt Leinart, the highest finish ever for a freshman. As a freshman, Peterson rushed for 1925 yards. He also led the nation in carries with 339.

Peterson has been described as running like a gazelle, and this is a fair point when he is often liable to break off runs of up to 80 yards. Many people believed that Peterson would struggle in his sophomore year due to the loss of many OU seniors to the NFL, such as tackle Jammal Brown and quarterback Jason White. Peterson did struggle at times, but not because of an inept offensive line, but rather because of a nagging high ankle injury. Peterson still managed to lock down a spot on the All-Big 12 team at running back despite missing all or part of four games. "AD", or All Day, rushed for 1024 yards and 14 touchdowns. Peterson will be a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy again in 2006. Adrian Peterson was recently timed in the 40 yard dash with a 4.35 time.
