Alan Ford is an American swimmer. He was the first person to swim 100 yards freestyle in less than 50 seconds, in 1944. This performance was unequaled for eight years. He had already broken the 51-second record that Johnny Weissmuller
had held for 16 years. He won a silver medal at the 1948 Olympics, and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1966.
