Athletes - Alec Kessler

Alec Christopher Kessler (born January 13 1967 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American former professional basketball player in the NBA.

The 6' 11" power forward/center from the University of Georgia was selected 12th in the 1990 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets but his draft rights were immediately traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for the draft rights to Dave Jamerson and Carl Herrera.

In his short NBA career, he was a member of the Heat for 210 games spanning four seasons until being waived on November 2, 1994 (prior to the start of the 1994-95 season). He holds career averages of 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

In addition to being an athlete, Kessler also excelled in the classroom, first graduating from Georgia with a degree in Microbiology and after his NBA career ended in 1994, he entered the Emory University School Of Medicine, earning his degree in 1999. During his residency he would become a specialist in orthopedics.
