Athletes - Andy Marte

Andy Manuel Marte (born October 21, 1983 in Villa Tapia, Dominican Republic) is an infielder in Major League Baseball. He is currently a member of the Cleveland Indians organization.

2005-2006 Offseason

Marte was part of a trade on Thursday, December 8, 2005, in which the Boston Red Sox sent shortstop Edgar Rentería
to the Atlanta Braves.

On January 27, 2006 he was traded to the Cleveland Indians along with relief pitcher Guillermo Mota
and catcher Kelly Shoppach
, a player to be named later and cash considerations for left fielder Coco Crisp
, catcher Josh Bard
and relief pitcher David Riske
.

Career

Marte was hugely successful in the Braves farm system. Batting .275 with 20 homers and 74 RBI in 109 games in Triple-A, but only hit .140 in 57 at bats with the Braves. Locking up Chipper Jones for the long term, and losing Rafael Furcal
in free agency, made Marte expendable for the Atlanta Braves.
