Baron Davis (born April 13, 1979 in Los Angeles, California) is a point guard with the Golden State Warriors. He began playing basketball at the age of three. Later, Davis became a star at Crossroads High School and UCLA. Davis was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets as the number three pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. Today, his career continues as one of the elite guards in the NBA, though he is frequently criticized as being a "shoot-first" point guard.

On February 24 2005, Davis was traded from the Hornets to the Golden State Warriors for guard Speedy Claxton and veteran forward Dale Davis. The move created one of the more potent backcourts in the NBA with Davis and star guard Jason Richardson. It also saw Davis' return to California where he craved to return to since his college days in UCLA. He was an NBA All-Star in 2003 and 2004, when he played for the New Orleans Hornets.

On January 19, 2006, Davis was suspended for one game for hitting Luke Ridnour in the chest in a game against the Seattle SuperSonics.

Scouting report

Davis is an all-purpose point guard who can score, dish and crash the boards. He is a candidate for a triple-double on a good night. He is quick to the lane and can steal the ball. Davis' biggest flaw has been his health problems, as when he is healthy, he is among the top point guards in the Western Conference. Apart from that, he just needs to work on his free throws. Davis is a likely candidate for an All-Star selection any year he is healthy.

Baron Davis is the godfather to the son of rapper The Game, as The Game rapped about on "Like Father, Like Son", a track from his 2005 album, The Documentary.

Trivia

A frequent gum chewer during games, it was noted in a recent interview that Davis chews Juicy Fruit brand gum.
