Athletes - Bob Shawkey


James Robert Shawkey (December 4 1890 - December 31 1980) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees from 1913 to 1927. Born in Sigel, Pennsylvania, he won 20 or more games four times for the Yankees. Shawkey also served as the Yankees' manager after the untimely death of Miller Huggins
. He served in this capacity for just one season, 1930, when he guided the Yankees to a disappointing third place finish. He died at age 90 in Syracuse, New York.
