Athletes - Chris Parks

Chris Parks (born October 4, 1973 in Washington, D.C.) is an American professional wrestler, best known for his appearances with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling as "The Monster" Abyss.

Career

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

Abyss was brought into TNA on June 11, 2003 by Kid Kash
to protect him while he battled against Trinity
& Erik Watts
. Soon after Kash’s problems with them ended, they started to become a tag team for a couple months. But during October, tension sparked when Kash berated Abyss for a loss against America's Most Wanted and Abyss snapped on him. This lead to a match the next week, which Abyss won, but Kash attacked Abyss with a steel chair, leading to a First Blood Steel Chair On A Pole Match. Kash came out victorious in this match, and soon after the feud ended.

Abyss aligned himself with Don Callis when he went against Erik Watts. With fellow members Red Shirt Security under the control of Callis, Abyss teamed with them and had a feud with Raven
& The Gathering. At the end of December, Abyss & Red Shirt Security battled Raven & The Gathering in a Steel Cage Match. Abyss & the Red Shirt Security defeated Raven & The Gathering when the Gathering turned on Raven.

Going in to 2004, Abyss next opponent would be A.J. Styles
. At one point Abyss was scheduled to team with Styles and face the Red Shirt Security for the NWA World Tag Team Championship. Abyss left during the match, but Styles came out victorious, making the new champions Abyss & Styles. The following week Abyss lost to Styles by disqualification. The next week they battled in a Four Corners Tables Match for the ownership of the Tag Team Titles. With help from Lex Luger, Abyss won and now had full ownership of the titles, but was later stripped of the titles by Vince Russo. Styles & Abyss then fought in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, which ended in a no contest. To end the feud and declare a #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Abyss & Styles fought in a Ladder Match. When Raven
distracted Styles, Abyss retrieved the contract and won the match. He later lost the Contendership to Raven in a Four Way Match with Ron Killings
& Styles.

For a short time, Abyss became a partner of Monty Brown
. Later Abyss started to be accompanied by Goldylocks to the ring so she has protection from her ex-boyfriend, Erik Watts
. Abyss defeated Watts in a match where it was Goldylocks’ money vs. Watts contract. Goldylocks sold the contract and brought in Alex Shelley. Though Abyss helped Goldylocks & Shelley to claim more contracts, Abyss was treated as “extra luggage” to Goldylocks. When Watts returned to TNA, a match was set up with Watts, Sonny Siaki
, & Desire vs. Abyss, Goldylocks, & Alex Shelley. Abyss turned on Goldylocks in this match, and finally left her.

In November Abyss started a feud with Monty Brown
& Raven
. This led to a match at Victory Road 2004 between Abyss, Raven, & Brown in a Monster’s Ball Match. The match was brutal, with Abyss finally revealing a bag of thumbtacks that he carried around for weeks. Abyss was slammed on them by Raven and was slammed through a table, leaving Raven to get pinned by Brown.

However, this was not the last time Abyss would face Brown
. Abyss continued to attack Brown, leading up to a Serengeti Survival Match at Turning Point 2004. The only ways to win are by pinfall, submission, or slamming your opponent on thumbtacks. Abyss lost this match after being spinebustered onto thumbtacks by Brown.

In January, it was stated that Abyss has parted ways with TNA. Abyss would sign a new contract, and appeared at Final Resolution 2005 and attacked Jeff Hardy
. This led to a match in February at Against All Odds and the match being a Full Metal Mayhem Match. The match contained ladders, tables, chairs, & chains. After Abyss whipped Hardy over the top rope and sent him crashing through tables stacked at ringside, Abyss won the match and won the right to be in an NWA World Heavyweight Championship match on a future Impact.
