Dale Sveum (pronounced "Swaim") is the current third base coach of the Milwaukee Brewers. He was born on November 23, 1963 in Richmond, CA. He was an All-State and All-American quarterback in high school and turned down a baseball/football scholarship to Arizona State to sign with the Brewers. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1st round (25th pick) of the 1982 amateur draft as a shortstop and third baseman. He played 12 seasons total in the MLB. He was mediocre on the field, having a career batting average of .236, with 69 HR. The best single game of his career was July 17, 1986 when he hit three home runs and had six RBIs, leading his team to victory.

Sveum is best known for his performance on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1987, when he hit the game-winning homerun at County Stadium to lead the Brewers to their twelfth consecutive victory. The game is among the most remembered in Milwaukee Brewers history.

Sveum's best season came in 1987 when he hit 25 homers and drove in 95 runs, while batting mostly in the 9th spot in the Brewers lineup. The following season he had a career-threatening collision with Darryl Hamilton, in which his leg was broken. He missed the rest of the 1988 season and all of the 1989 season. Sveum would be replaced on the roster by Gary Sheffield. Sveum would never again be the same player after that incident.

Prior to his role as coach in Milwaukee, Sveum was employed by the Boston Red Sox. As a third base coach in Boston, a position he held for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, he was frequently criticized by fans for being too aggressive in sending runners home. Some of these detractors have given him the nickname "Send 'em home Sveum."
