Eddie Lawson (born March 11, 1958) was an American motorcycle racer with four Grand Prix World Championships to his name. Lawson was known to some as "Steady Eddie".

Lawson won the FIM 500cc title in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1989. In 1988, after winning the title for Marlboro Yamaha, he switched teams to Rothmans Honda and won the 1989 title; no rider had ever won back-to-back championships on machines from different manufacturers before. His major rival in 1987 and 1988 was Wayne Gardner who wbecame the first Australian to win the FIM 500cc GP World Championship in 1988 on the ill-handling Rothmans Honda. Gardner's criticism of Lawson is said to have been an impetus to him changing to Honda and becoming a 'team-mate' with Gardner. In winning the title on the Honda against Gardner, on a similar bike, the taciturn Lawson proved his point to the world.

In 1990, Lawson won the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race on a Yamaha YZF750R paired with Japanese rider Tadahiko Taira. Lawson also won the Daytona 200 in 1986 and 1993.

Eddie's on-track battles with "King" Kenny Roberts, and "Fast" Freddie Spencer were legendary.

Lawson was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.

After finishing his motorcycle career, Lawson tried his hand at four wheeled motorsport racing in the States in the Indy Lights series and eventually to CART in 1996 where he competed in 11 races with a best finish of 6th. His passion for speed remains undiminished however and the former World Champion now gets his kicks driving 250cc Go karts in the States often accompanied by his great friend and rival Wayne Rainey who races in a specially modified kart to cope with his spinal injuries.
