Ellis Hobbs III (born May 16, 1983 in Niagara Falls, New York) is an American football cornerback for the NFL's New England Patriots. He was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Iowa State University.

High school career

Hobbs attended DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas, where he was a standout in football and track. In track, he participated on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and the long jump.

NFL career

Despite limited playing time, Hobbs has made a number of contributions to the Patriots in his rookie season. He earned 371 yards on 15 kickoff returns (including a crucial 35-yard return in the Patriots' game-winning drive against the Pittsburgh Steelers), and earned three interceptions.

During the player introductions for the New England Patriots versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wildcard Playoff Game on January 7, 2006 Hobbs made the following statement: "Ellis Hobbs the Third, THE UP AND COMING IOWA STATE." To his credit, the equally up and coming Patriots won the game 28-3.
