Erik Cole (born November 6, 1978 in Oswego, New York) is a left winger currently (2005) playing for the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL.

Playing career

Cole was drafted 71st overall by the Hurricanes in 1998. In his first NHL season in 2001-02, he scored six goals during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He is the first (and as of 2006, only) Oswegonian in the NHL, or any of the four major pro sports leagues in the United States for that matter. Cole played college hockey for the Clarkson University Golden Knights.

On December 19th, 2005, Cole was chosen to represent the United States as a player on Team USA's ice hockey team which will compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. He was chosen along with Clarkson University alum Craig Conroy of the Los Angeles Kings. On March 4th, 2006, Cole suffered a fractured vertebra in his neck after getting hit by Pittsburgh Penguins's defenseman Brooks Orpik with 14:42 left in the third. In that game, Cole lead his Carolina Hurricanes to a 7-5 victory with two goals and an assist before being injured which would very likely end the remainder of his season.
