Evan Lysacek (born June 4, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American figure skater and a two-time world bronze medalist (2005-2006). He currently trains in El Segundo, California with coaches Frank Carroll and Ken Congemi.BiographyLysacek started figure skating at the age of eight. It was not an early age to start for serious skaters, but he advanced very quickly. He won Juvenile Nationals two years later, then went on to win novice at Nationals at 13 and juniors at 14.Three times, Lysacek skated three brilliant programs at the World Junior Championships, but he won silver all three times, in 2001, 2003, and 2004. Winning the World Junior Championships was one of his biggest goals as a junior skater. Leaving the disappointments behind, Lysacek took his first senior international title at the 2005 Four Continents Championships, after winning the bronze medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He had his big break by winning the bronze at his first Worlds, the 2005 World Figure Skating Championships. In this Olympics season, Lysacek qualified for the Grand Prix final with two silver medals, but was forced to withdraw because of bursitis and tendonitis in his right hip. Now, he has qualified himself into an elite group of skaters in the world, and, following a silver medal at the 2006 U.S. National Championships, was named to compete at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. At the Olympics, following a disappointing tenth place finish in the short program, he was hit with the stomach flu. Unable to practise, he stayed in bed at the Olympic village, receiving fluids from IVs. After considering withdrawing, he decided to skate the next day and went on to skate a magnificent, career best free skate. He finished his free skate with eight triple jumps, and was ranked third of the night, and finished fourth overall. "I'm very happy," he said. "It was close to getting a medal, and I think that if I was a little bit better in the short program I would have challenged for a medal. So that’s upsetting, but it gives me a lot of confidence." Lysacek ended his season by finishing third at the 2006 World Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, Canada. Once again troubled by illness, he captured the bronze medal despite being on three different antibiotics to fight a bacterial infection (at one point causing him to cough up blood). He will start the Champions on Ice tour on April 7, 2006 and plans to skate next season.
