| Fred Bear (1902–1988) was an American hunter and bow manufacturer. He was born on May 5th, 1902, in the town of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Although he did not start bow hunting until his 29th year, and did not master it until many more, he is still widely regarded as a legend and pioneer in the bow-hunting community. Bear was a world traveller and film producer, and the founder of Bear Archery, an outdoor company which still exists. He died April 27 in Gainesville, Florida. Some may know him from the song "Fred Bear" by Ted Nugent, who was his lifelong friend.
