Fred R. Taylor (born December 3, 1924 in Zanesville, Ohio, United States - died January 6, 2002 in Columbus, Ohio) was a college men's basketball coach.

He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1943
and entered the United States Army Air Forces. After service he entered the The Ohio State University in 1946. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player, starting as forward on the 1950 Big Ten championship basketball team and winning All-American honors in baseball.

He briefly played professional baseball for the Washington Senators, from 1950-1952, seeing only 49 at-bats in the big leagues.

He returned to Ohio State as basketball coach in 1958, as an assistant the first year, becoming head coach in 1959 and coaching through 1976. His career record as Ohio State coach was 297-158. Other coaching highlights include:
  • NCAA title in 1960
  • NCAA final four appearances in 1961, 1962, and 1968
  • Big Ten Champions in 1960-1964, 1968, co-champions in 1971
  • Member, U.S. Olympic basketball committee, 1964-1972
  • Member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
