| George R. "Hawkeye" Irvine (born February 1 1948 in Seattle, Washington) is a former professional basketball player and coach. A 6'6" forward, Irvine played collegiately at the University of Washington and seleteced by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 8th round of the 1970 NBA Draft. However, he never played for his hometown Sonics, nor for any other NBA team that matter. Instead, Irvine opted to play for the American Basketball Association's Virginia Squires, where he played for five seasons. He briefly played a sixth season with the Denver Nuggets (still in the ABA) at that time, and retired from basketball after the 1976-1977 season. Irvine would later serve as head coach for two NBA teams; the Indiana Pacers, for two stints, and the Detroit Pistons.
