Gino Torretta was an American football player who won the Heisman Trophy and played in the National Football League.

Career

Gino Torretta was born on August 10, 1970 in Pinole, California. He played his college football at the University of Miami where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1992 after passing for more than 3000 yards his senior year. He had a 26-1 record as a college quarterback. In the 1992 National Championship, his Hurricanes were overmatched by the Alabama Crimson Tide's fierce defense. Alabama won the game easily 34-13.

He was drafted in the 7th round in the 1993 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He did not get a chance to play that year. He was on their roster and the Detroit Lions roster in 1994 but did not get to play that year either.

He played in NFL Europe in 1995 and was also on the roster for the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions but never played. The 49ers cut him in 1996 and the Seattle Seahawks picked him up. He got his only chance in the NFL in the season finale when he came off the bench against the Oakland Raiders. He immediately threw a 32-yard touchdown pass that put Seattle ahead and they won the game.

In 1997, he was on the roster for Seattle and later the Indianapolis Colts but did not play. After that season, he retired from the NFL and began a career as a football analyst.
