| Harold Clifton Lanier (born July 4 1942 in Denton, North Carolina) is a former infielder and manager in Major League Baseball. The son of pitching great Max Lanier, he played from 1964 to 1973 for the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, mostly as a shortstop and second baseman. Later, he became manager of the Houston Astros from 1986 to 1988, leading them to the National League's Western Division title in his first season.
