Harold Clifton Lanier (born July 4 1942 in Denton, North Carolina) is a former infielder and manager in Major League Baseball. The son of pitching great Max Lanier
, he played from 1964 to 1973 for the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, mostly as a shortstop and second baseman. Later, he became manager of the Houston Astros from 1986 to 1988, leading them to the National League's Western Division title in his first season.
