Athletes - Ifeanyi Ohalete

Ifeanyi Ohalete (born May 22, 1979 in Springfield, IL) is a National Football League strong safety for the Cincinnati Bengals. He is also referred to as 'Stinkfani' by Cincinnati Bengals fans because of his horrible tackling and coverage skills as an NFL Safety.

He played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2004. He came to Arizona on waivers from the Washington Redskins, where he played 47 games with 24 starts from 2001-2003. He entered the NFL with Washington in 2001 as a college free agent.

Ohalete played college football at the University of Southern California.

Ohalete is remembered by many USC fans as the player who committed a unnecessary roughness penalty after a failed fourth down attempt giving Notre Dame a crucial first down and allowing the Irish to complete a 21 point second half comeback in 1999 (25-24).

Ohalete ran into some drama in 2004 with Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins. Portis came to the Redskins in a block-buster trade that involved Pro-Bowl CB Champ Baily. Portis had worn the number 26, and Ohalete had the number. Portis agreed to buy the rights to the number from Ohalete, but Ohalete later sued Portis to force payment. The case was settled before trial.

Ohalete is now most known for his numerous mistakes during the 2005 season as the starting Strong Safety for the eventual 2005 AFC North Division Champion Cincinnati Bengals, and is regarded as one of the worst players ever to play for the Bengals.

While Ohalete may not be a Bengal fan favorite, noted NFL analyst KC Joyner, The Football Scientist, rated Ohalete in his Scientific Football 2005 book as one of the league's top defensive backs. Regarding his performance for the 2004 Arizona Cardinals, Joyner wrote "Ohalete was #1 in completion percentage, #5 in yards per attempt, tied for 5th in fewest TDs allowed, and #1 in tight/good coverage percentage. He was just as dominant versus short and medium passes thrown his way, ranking 3rd and 2nd in tight/good coverage percentage at those depths. He also allowed the 2nd lowest completion percentage on medium passes. If I were Ohalete's agent, I'd be pushing hard to get any kind of extension I could. Ohaletes skill set fits perfectly with this defense, and he would be a Pro Bowl candidate if he played like this anywhere else but Arizona."
