| James T Sherwin is a chess International Master recognized by FIDE, the World Chess Federation.
He finished third in the U.S. Chess Championship twice, behind Bobby Fischer and Samuel Reshevsky. Sherwin became a high-powered corporate lawyer but as a result was criminally indicted by the politically ambitious assistant district attorney Rudolph Giuliani. Giuliani's case resulted in three trials. Sherwin was finally convicted in the third trial, but his conviction was overturned on appeal. This litigation cost more than one million dollars in defense attorney fees. During this litigation, Sherwin was forced to resign as President of the American Chess Foundation. Sherwin moved to England and now works there as a corporate lawyer again.
