Jeff Halpern (born May 3, 1976 in Potomac, Maryland) is a National Hockey League player with the Washington Capitals.

After graduating from Princeton University, Halpern began his NHL career in the 1999-2000 NHL season; he played in 79 games, scoring 18 goals with 11 assists, and having a +21 defensive rating. In the next season, Halpern had 21 goals and 42 points. The 2001-2002 season was rough for him; he was limited to 48 games, scoring just 5 goals and making 14 assists. In 2002-2003, he played all 82 of the Capitals' regular-season games, finishing with 13 goals and 21 assists. The 2003-04 NHL season was his highest-scoring season yet; he finished with 19 goals and 27 assists in 79 games, albeit with a -21 defensive rating, partially due to the Capitals' poor win-loss record for the season and inexperienced defensemen. He is the first member of the Capitals to come from the Washington, D.C. area as he hails from the suburb of Potomac, Maryland.

During the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Halpern played for the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland.

On September 23, 2005, the Capitals named Halpern as their team captain. He became the 12th captain in the Capitals' franchise history.

Halpern is a member of the Greater Washington (D.C.) Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. As of 2005, Halpern is one of three Jewish players in the NHL; the others are Mike Cammalleri and Mathieu Schneider.
