James Patrick Murray (December 29 1919
- August 17 1998) was an American sportswriter. Murray was a sports columnist at the Los Angeles Times from 1961 to 1998. He was a 14-time winner of Sportswriter of the Year award. In 1990, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his 1989 columns. In 1987, he was honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame, winning the J.G. Taylor Spink Award
