| John Harrington (born May 24, 1957) in Virginia, Minnesota was American ice hockey forward. He played high school hockey for Virginia High School in Virginia, Minnesota. Harrington was member of the United States Olympic team that won a gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in an event known as the Miracle on Ice. He was also a member of the 1984 United States Olympic team. Harrington attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth in Duluth, Minnesota. Since the 1993-94 season, Harrington has been the head hockey coach at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota where he has become the winningest hockey coach in school history. He shares the same name as Sir John Harrington, a Briton, who invented the flushable toilet.
