| John Steven Mabry (born October 17 1970 in Wilmington, Delaware) is a Major League Baseball player, currently playing for the Chicago Cubs as a utility player. And, a graduate of Bohemia Manor High School, in Chesapeake City, Maryland. He has been on the St. Louis Cardinals three different times (1994-98, 2001, 2004-) and is known for his heroics. He plays third base, first base, left field, right field, center field, and can be the designated hitter. He is 6'4" tall, weighs 210 lbs and bats left- and throws right-handed. He is known as a patient batter, showing little emotion while playing the game. In the clubhouse, "Mabes" is a quiet team leader known for his sense of humor. He has bat for the cycle and come up big as a key pinch hitter on the team. His only season with over 400 at bats was 1996, when he had 543 and batted .297 on the season. In his career, he is batting .271 with 82 home runs and 384 RBI's. He has 792 career hits in 2919 at bats. 2004 marks the third time that Mabry has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. Working with former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Mike Matheny, he has learned the catchers position and is able to serve as emergency catcher should a situation require it. He has made two career appearances pitching, pitching a total of 1 inning and giving up 7 earned runs for an ERA of 63. Mabry resides in St. Louis (Creve Coeur) and is married (Ann) and father of four children (J.T., Danielle, Nichole and Samantha). He enjoys hunting, fishing and outdoor sports during his leisure time. Among other teams Mabry has played for are the Seattle Mariners (1999-2000, 2003), San Diego Padres (2000), Florida Marlins (2001), Oakland Athletics (2002), and Philadelphia Phillies (2002). On December 7, 2005, Mabry signed a $1.075 million, one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs.
