Jose Manuel Oquendo Contreras (born July 4, 1963 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) is the current third base coach for the major league St. Louis Cardinals. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Oquendo began his major league career at the age of 19 with the New York Mets. In the 1986 season, however, he joined the Cardinals, where he would spend the rest of his career, eventually playing every defensive position, most often second base. He was nicknamed "Secret Weapon" for his versatility on field. Oquendo once pitched in relief for four innings, shutting out the Atlanta Braves for three innings before yielding a home run, earning the first decision by a non-pitcher in 20 years. His best year came in 1989, when he was in the top 10 in hits, triples, walks, batting average, singles, on base percentage, and games played.

Oquendo will serve as manager of the team representing Puerto Rico in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
