Athletes - Katie Orscher

Kathryn "Katie" Orscher (born June 18, 1984 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American figure skater. Formerly a singles skater, she retired from singles in November 2000 to compete in pairs. Her pairs partner since 2000 has been Garrett Lucash
. The team was brought together because Garrett was searching for a new partner, and he remembered Katie. They are both clockwise skaters and only a small portion of skaters skate in that direction. They skate at the ISCC in Simsbury, CT and are coached by Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, who are the 1994 Pairs World Champions. Their choreographers are Igor Shpilband and Elena Petrenko.

In 2005, they won the gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The 2005-2006 season was a difficult one for them as Katie broke her foot over the summer and they missed a great deal of training time going into their most important season ever. In January 2006 at the US National Championships in St. Louis, MO they led the pack in Pairs after the short program. After the long program, they dropped to third and missed out on making the US Olympic team by .66 points.

Before Katie and Garrett teamed up, Katie was a singles skater and won the bronze medal in the Junior level at the 2000 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Her hobbies include cooking, interior design, reading, sewing, running, and swimming. She also has a large collection of frog items. After she is done skating, she would like to open a restaurant.
