| Larry Darnell Herndon (born November 3, 1953 in Sunflower, Mississippi) is an American former Major League Baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals (1974), San Francisco Giants (1976-1981), and Detroit Tigers (1982-1988). Herndon was particularly known for his time with the great Tigers teams of the 1980s. He made the final out in the 1984 World Series, catching a fly ball in left field off the bat of San Diego Padres star Tony Gwynn. Three years later, Herndon would hit a solo home run on the final day of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays; it proved to be the only run in a 1-0 Detroit victory over the Jays that clinched the American League East division title over them by two games.
