Mario Encarnacion (September 24, 1975-October 3, 2005) was a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs for a brief duration -- 23 games from 2001 to 2002. He was born in Bani, Dominican Republic and died in Danshuei, Taiwan.

Encarnacion was playing for Taiwan's CPBL's Macoto Cobras in 2005 when, on October 3, he was found dead in his team dormitory room.

Earlier in the season, Encarnacion was briefly suspended for testing positive for amphetamines, leading to speculation of a drug-induced death, but autopsy reports are still pending. However, coroners have rejected the rumor that Encarnacion had suffered a fatal heart attack while engaging in sexual relations.

After Encarnacion's death, the Cobras held a vigil for him that was attended by a large number of fans. Since then, at Cobras games, whenever the Cobras needed a rally, the fans would chant "Mario, Mario" -- under the belief that Encarnacion's soul would help the team. (The net effect, however, appears to be to turn Encarnacion into a figure like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's Rally Monkey).
