Athletes - Michael Cuddyer

Michael Cuddyer (pronounced /kud-die-er/; born Michael Brent Cuddyer on March 27, 1979 in Norfolk, Virginia, USA) is a Major League Baseball infielder. He is currently the starting third baseman for the Minnesota Twins. He bats and throws right-handed and wears number 5.

Cuddyer is a 1997 graduate of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. He did not attend college.

Cuddyer made his major league debut on September 18, 2001 for the Minnesota Twins. Until the 2004 season, he saw little playing time except as an occasional fill-in in the outfield. During 2004, he made the transition to the infield, playing second and third base, and at the beginning of the 2005 season, Cuddyer was made the starting third baseman after the departure of veteran Corey Koskie
to the Toronto Blue Jays by way of free agency.

The Twins extended Cuddyer's contract Jan. 21, giving him a 1-year deal worth about $1.3 million.
