Mike Doss (born March 24, 1981 in Canton, Ohio) is a current American Football Safety for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. He and fellow teammate Bob Sanders is considered by most as one of the best young safeties duo in the league.

High school

Doss attended McKinley High School whom he helped win back-to-back state titles as a running back and safety. As a senior, he had 1,454 yards, 22 touchdowns, 111 tackles, and three interceptions and won all-state honors and an All-America honorable mention by USA Today.

College

Doss played as a starter in Ohio State University where he started 40 out of 50 career games and was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and a three-time All-America choice by The Sporting News. He had 331 career tackles, eight interceptions, eight fumbles recovered, and six sacks. He started all 14 games as a senior and was a reason why Ohio State University won the national championship against the University of Miami in the Fiesta Bowl where had nine tackles and one interception. He was also a consensus First Team All-America, a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.

NFL career

In 2003, The Indianapolis Colts drafted Doss in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. In that season, he started 15 games at strong safety and had 101 tackles, and one interception.

In 2004, at a New England game, he sustained hamstring injury, missing four games, and then suffered a groin injury in another game, missing two more. Despite these injuries, he had 49 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions that season.

On May 29, 2005 Doss was charged with a felony weapons charge and three misdemeanor charges in Akron, Ohio after police estimated hearing five to six gunshots outside a local restaurant. He was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and a one thousand dollar fine after pleading no contest to the charges. Colts coach Tony Dungy has said Doss would be disciplined by the team.
