Mike Montgomery (born February 27 1947 in Long Beach, California, United States) is the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. He was also the men's basketball coach of the Stanford Cardinal from 1986 to 2002 and at the University of Montana for eight seasons prior to coaching at Stanford.

College coaching career

He is the winningest basketball coach at Stanford with a career record of 339-156 (68.5 winning percentage). Under his leadership, the Cardinal played in the post-season in 14 out of 16 seasons and reached the NCAA tournament ten straight times from 1995-2004. Stanford reached the Final Four under Montgomery in 1998, which was the first time the school made it to the Final Four in 56 years. The 1998 team was led by Mark "Mad Dog" Madsen and Arthur Lee.

In 2000, Montgomery was named the Naismith and Basketball Times Coach of the Year. He was also named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year four times. Following his career at Stanford, he was awarded the John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Lifetime Achievement Award.

NBA coaching career

After the dismissal of Eric Musselman, the Warriors had Montgomery as their top candidate. Montgomery accepted the job, resigned from Stanford and was hired by the Golden State Warriors in 2004. In his first year, the Warriors went 34-48.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Long Beach State and a Master's degree in physical education from Colorado State University.
