Michael Jamaine Rumph (born on November 8, 1979 in Delray Beach, Florida) is a free safety in the NFL. He went toUniversity of Miami. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1st round (27th overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft. He was originally a cornerback, but the 49ers switched him to safety because of his ability to tackle well. He has missed big parts of both 2004 and 2005 seasons due to injuries.

Rumph is a big, physical safety, has long arms and plays the ball well, and is a good bump-and-run defender who jams his wide receiver. He has good speed and adequate change-of-direction ability. A physical tackler who will take on blockers and hold his ground. He suffers from frequent mental lapses, will make mistakes in coverage, and lacks the closing speed to compensate. He has trouble when forced to play off the ball or in zone defense.
