| Norval 'Norv' Eugene Turner (born May 17, 1952 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina) is the offensive coordinator for the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers. He has also served as head coach of the Washington Redskins and the Oakland Raiders, and as offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, and Miami Dolphins. He is the brother of former University of Illinois head football coach and current Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner. Turner was the offensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys on Jimmy Johnson's staff when Dallas won back to back Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993. Turner got much of the credit for their success, even though he was working with future Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and Nate Newton and other Pro Bowlers like Jay Novacek, Daryl Johnston and Mark Stepnoski. In 1994, following his success with the Cowboys, Turner was hired as the head coach of the Washington Redskins. In seven seasons with the Redskins, his overall record was 49 wins, 59 losses, and one tie. They made the playoffs only once, in 1999, during which they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round. Following his tenure with the Redskins, Turner would go on to serve as offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers in 2001 and Miami Dolphins in 2002 and 2003. When the Oakland Raiders fired head coach Bill Callahan following the 2003 season, Turner was hired to replace him by owner Al Davis. Most people believed that Turner was not Davis' first choice, after Dallas assistant Sean Payton turned down the job. His first season record with the Raiders in 2004 was a lackluster 5-11, and he was fired on January 3, 2006 after the finishing the 2005 season with a 4-12 record. During Turner's two years with the Raiders, he managed only one win against AFC West opponents, the division the Raiders are in. In addition, Turner was unable to jumpstart an offense that included pro-bowl wide receiver Randy Moss. On January 17, 2006, Turner was named offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, a reversal of roles of sorts: current 49ers head coach Mike Nolan served as Turner's defensive coordinator from (1997-1999) with the Washington Redskins. He, along with the rest of the 49ers staff, would coach the South team in the 2006 Senior Bowl. Unfortunately, the South team lost to the Tennessee Titans coached North team.
