Oliver Luck (born April 5, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio) was a quarterback for the Houston Oilers of the National Football League. He is the current team president of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.Football careerLuck attended St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. He attended college at West Virginia University, playing quarterback from 1979-1981. As a senior in 1981 he led the Mountaineers to the Peach Bowl where they would beat the Florida Gators by a score of 26-6.In 1982, he was selected in the second round of the NFL draft as the 17th pick by the Houston Oilers. He was the third quarterback selected, after Art Schlichter (4th to Baltimore) and Jim McMahon (5th to Chicago). As a rookie Luck saw no action, but Luck's luck would change. In his second season, the Oilers inserted him as starting quarterback. During this season he threw eight touchdowns and 13 picks while completing 124 of 217 pass attempts. He threw for only 1375 yards, as the Oilers struggled finishing with a 2-14 record. In 1984, the Oilers signed Canadian Football League star Warren Moon. Oliver Luck was on the bench for the majority of the season. He completed 22 of 36 pass attempts for 256 yards, two of which were touchdown passes. He had only one pass intercepted. Luck had some success running the ball. He carried the ball 10 times for 75 yards and scored one touchdown. In 1985 and 1986, Luck continued to play back-up to Moon. He threw 100 passes in 1985 for 56 completions, two of which went for touchdowns. He threw just as many picks. In 1986, Luck's final season in the NFL, he had one touchdown pass and five passes he had picked off. He hit 31 passes out of 60 attempts. The 31 completions gained 341 yards for an Oilers passing offense that finished 23rd out of 28 teams. Post-football careerAfter retiring from football, Luck practiced law in Germany. In 1991, he became general manager of the Frankfurt Galaxy of the fledgling World League of American Football. He held the post for two years until the league was suspended. Upon its resumption as NFL Europe in 1995, he became GM of the Rhein Fire, and was named league president the following year, a role he held until 2000.In 2005, Oliver Luck was named president of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.
