(Osmany) Urrutia was born in Jobabo Village, in the Las Tunas Province of Cuba on June 29, 1976. He is one of the best Cuban baseball players today. He plays the Right Field spot and is 6 feet tall and 104 kg (229 pounds). He has competed in many international tournaments for Cuba, including: the World Championship in Taiwan in 2001, the World Cup of Baseball in The Netherlands 2000 and 2001, the Pan-American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2003, the World Cup of Baseball 2003 in Cuba, and the Athens Olympic Games of 2004. He also played for the team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic in March 2006.

Achievements

One of his most outstanding achievements was hitting for more than a .400 batting average from 2000 to 2003. In 2000-2001, he hit .431, in 2001-2002, he hit .408, and in 2002-2003 he hit for a .421 average. During the World Cup of Baseball in September, 2005, Urrutia hit for a .387 average with 5 Runs Batted In (RBI) and 12 hits in 31 at-bats. In the World Baseball Classic in 2006, Urrutia batted .387 with 1 Home Run and 7 RBI in 8 games, leading team Cuba to the championship game, where they eventually lost 10-6 to team Japan.
