Osvaldo Jose (Sr.) (Pichardo) Virgil (born May 17 1933) was a utility player who had a nine year career (1956-1958, 1960-1962, 1965, 1966, 1969). He played with the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants all of the National League and the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City A's, Baltimore Orioles all of the American League. He played all the infield positions (catcher, first base, second base, third base, and shortstop) and the outfield.

Born in Monte Cristi, Virgil has the distinction of being the first Dominican Major League Baseball player. He is the father of Ozzie Virgil, Jr.
