Rudy Caballero Seanez (born October 20, 1968 in Brawley, California) is a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. From 1989 through 2005, Seanez has played for the Cleveland Indians (1989-1991), San Diego Padres (1993, 2001, 2005), Los Angeles Dodgers (1994-1995), Atlanta Braves (1998-2000, 2001), Texas Rangers (2002), Boston Red Sox (2003), Kansas City Royals (2004) and Florida Marlins (2004). He bats and throws right handed. Before the 2006 season, the Boston Red Sox and Seanez agreed to terms on a one-year contract with a club option for the 2007 season.CareerSeanez is an aggressive pitcher who will challenge a hitter with his 96-MPH fastball. He also has a decent slider and an effective changeup, being able against batters from both sides of the plate. He also does a better job than most short relievers at controlling the running game, and is a competent fielder, despite a history of back problems.Seanez, who made nine relief appearances for the Red Sox in 2003, posted a 7-1 record with a 2.69 ERA for the San Diego Padres in 2005, setting career highs in wins (7), games pitched (57), innings (60.1) and strikeouts (84), while his 2.69 ERA was his lowest since posting a 2.66 mark with the Dodgers in 1994. With only 22 walks issued, Seanez averaged nearly four strikeouts per walk. He limited opponents to a .222 batting average, including a .212 mark against right handed hitters, and compiled a WHIP of 1.18. He also ranked second among National League relievers with 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings and tied for second in the league with seven relief wins. In a 15-season career, Seanez is 27-20 with 11 saves and a 4.12 ERA in 380 games. He has a 2.07 SO/BB (417-to-201), including an average of 9.5 SO/9. But beyond the numbers, Seanez has shown the ability to overcome numerous injuries, combining weightlifting with some mixed martial arts (he trains with ultimate fighters) during his offseason workout regimen. The reliever is likely to be one of several setup options for Boston manager Terry Francona in the 2006 season. Sources
