Ryan Gomes (born September 1, 1982 in Waterbury, Connecticut) is a professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the NBA.

Despite a highly successful career as a power forward at Providence College in the Big East Conference, the 6'7" Gomes fell in the 2005 NBA Draft to the late second round. His size and abilities did not fit scouts' prototypical image of either a power forward or a small forward. Celtics' director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, however, felt that Gomes' track record and work ethic were enough to take a chance on the local product with the 50th pick overall.

Wearing number 4, Gomes was expected to play a significant role in the 2005 season spelling starting small forward Paul Pierce. Gomes is of Cape Verdean descent.

After a multiplayer trade deal involving Ricky Davis, Mark Blount, Marcus Banks, and two future second-round draft picks to Minnesota for Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi and rookie Dwayne Jones, Gomes earned a more significant role on the team. Soon after, Gomes was placed on the starting lineup at the power forward position for Kendrick Perkins, who had dislocated his left shoulder.

Since entering the starting line-up, Gomes has excelled, and may have earned himself a permanent starting role. On February 24, 2006 he had 17 rebounds and 13 points, and on March 7 he may have had his best game of his rookie season, with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. He followed that up the very next night with another career effort, 29 points and 11 rebounds. Besides scoring, Gomes hustles relentlessly, and Celtics television color commentary man Tommy Heinsohn describes Gomes as the best offensive rebounder on the Celtics roster.
