Sam Clancy was a defensive end in the National Football League. He played for the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts. He also played for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League.

Prior to his professional football career, he was a standout college basketball player for the University of Pittsburgh. He did not play football in college.

He has been an assistant coach for the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe, as well as the New Orleans Saints. As of 2005, he is a defensive line coach for the NFL's Oakland Raiders.

His son, Sam Clancy, Jr. is a professional basketball player; as of 2005 he plays for the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers. He starred collegiately at the University of Southern California. Sam Clancy was the 1st pick of the 2005 AAPBL minor league basketball draft, however the league folded a little over a week after the draft.
