Athletes - Scott Garland

Scott Garland, better known as Scotty 2 Hotty (born July 2, 1970 in Westbrook, Maine), is an American professional wrestler currently performing for World Wrestling Entertainment on the SmackDown! brand, in its cruiserweight division.

Wrestling career

Garland wrestled for New England Wrestling Association winning tag team and singles titles, before joining the WWF in 1993. Garland began his WWF (now the WWE) career under the name of Scott Taylor. He saw little success as a solo wrestler, usually acting as a jobber.

In 1998, he teamed up with "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher
to form the tag team of Too Much. Originally unnamed and wrestling as heels, the duo teamed regularly on the promotion's syndicated Saturday wrestling shows with Taylor playing the straight man to Christopher's over-the-top, egotistical antics. Soon Garland adopted Christopher's flamboyant actions and in-ring mannerisms and became known as Scott "Too Hot" Taylor. The team found little success as Too Much, but gained some measure of attention for their ambiguously homosexual gimmick. The two were originally booked to have a live, on-screen gay wedding at the 1999 St. Valentine's Day Massacre pay-per-view, but Christopher's real life father Jerry Lawler
objected (as did Christopher and Garland) and the proposed storyline never went ahead.

In late-1999 they were renamed Scotty 2 Hotty and Grand Master Sexay and called themselves Too Cool, making their official debut by interfering in a match during an edition of Sunday Night Heat. The team's gimmick was originally that of hip hop posers, but they began to be popular with fans and they were later joined by Rikishi
. As a three-man stable, the group feuded with the newly-arrived Radicalz. Garland would go on to have a memorable series of matches for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship with Dean Malenko
and Too Cool would win their first WWF World Tag Team Championship.

The group split after Rikishi turned heel, Garland was sidelined with a broken ankle and Christopher was released for conveying drugs across the Canadian border.

Garland would return in late 2000 and in 2001 to form the oddball Zoo Crew tag team with Albert
, though he was eventually doublecrossed by his partner. In May 2002, he suffered a serious neck injury and had to undergo surgery. It would be 17 months before Scotty made his full return, teaming back up with Rikishi. The team won the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown! After Rikishi was released, Scotty saw little success as a singles wrestler, and was primary used to put over other wrestlers such as Mordecai
, MNM and The Mexicools.

Scotty 2 Hotty's next push came when he began a feuding with William Regal. This feud began when Regal left Scotty (and turned heel) during a tag match against The Mexicools, but the feud ignited when Scotty attacked Regal during a promo on WWE Velocity. On the next episode of Velocity, which aired August 27, 2005, a match between William Regal and Scotty 2 Hotty was cut short when Paul Burchill interrupted to aid Regal in beating down Scotty. Scotty 2 Hotty would continue to feud with the pair for short while before the storyline faded out and Scotty 2 Hotty returned to action on Velocity.

Scotty 2 Hotty would continue to be a mainstay in SmackDown!s cruiserweight division through out the rest of the year and into 2006. Scotty 2 Hotty would compete mainly on Velocity, but during the February 17, 2006 edition of SmackDown!, Scotty 2 Hotty was brought up to the main shoe to substitute for Kid Kash
(due to family emergency) in a title match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Though Scotty 2 Hotty was unsuccessful in this attempt to defeat then champion Gregory Helms
, he (along with
SmackDown!
s other cruiserweights) would enter in a long feud with the champion.
