Career

Although at 6'7" he is undersized for a power forward, his athleticism and jumping ability enables him to be a good rebounder and shotblocker. Furthermore his quickness and ability to shoot from long distance create matchup problems for the opposing team.

Marion is well known for his unorthodox style of shooting. Although his shot resembles a forward thrust rather than a flick of the wrist, his offensive and defensive brilliance is undisputed among fans and critics. In fact, Marion is extremely well-regarded in fantasy basketball circuits as one of its top performers.

Marion attended UNLV and was a first round pick, ninth overall, of the Suns. He has played all six of his NBA seasons with the Suns.

Nicknamed The Matrix (by TNT analyst Kenny Smith
for his spectacular, seemingly gravity-defying plays), Marion was selected to the USA Olympic Men's Basketball team in 2004. In 2005, he was named a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star Team and selected in the '04-'05 All-NBA Third Team. Marion was also a Western Conference reserve on the 2006 All-Star team, and he is one of 23 players named to the USA Men's Senior National Team that will compete in the 2006 FIBA World Championship and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Facts

Shawn Marion was a teammate of the Minnesota Timberwolves' Trenton Hassell
at Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tennessee.

During the 2005 All Star Weekend, Marion teamed up with WNBA Rookie of the Year Diana Taurasi
of the Mercury, and Suns legend Dan Majerle
in the Radioshack Shooting Stars to run away with the title.

Marion's consistency has garnered him great attention in the world of fantasy sports. His ability to contribute to many statistical categories makes him one of the most sought after fantasy players. For the last three years, Marion can be considered to be one of the best fantasy basketball player in the league. In some fantasy circles, Marion is considered the top fantasy basketball player, often getting equal or more recognition than fantasy stars such as Kevin Garnett
and LeBron James
.

While attending UNLV Marion dominated Mountain West Conference play. Marion led the Runnin' Rebels to their last NCAA Tournament appearance, in 1998.

Shawn attended a small community college in Vincennes, Indiana known as Vincennes University before attending UNLV.
