In April 2005, Martinez signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. By July of that year, she was relocated to WWE's primary developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling, in Louisville, Kentucky for further training.

Training in OVW

Shelly debuted in OVW as the co-manager for Aaron Stevens along with Beth Phoenix. At an OVW House show that took place on October 29, 2005 Shelly Martinez won her debut singles match when she defeated Mickie James. Shelly has had numerous of wrestling matches with Fuji Cakes and Serena. Their first time at OVW Fuji Cakes and Serena challenged Shelly Martinez and Beth Phoenix at the OVW House Show on November 4, 2005. They ended up getting defeated by Shelly and Beth Phoenix. The following week Serena challenged Shelly Martinez to a Mixed Tag Team match. Serena picked Chris Cage to be her partner, and Shelly chose Aaron Stevens, unfortunately Shelly and Aaron Stevens lost to Serena and Chris Cage. Again, Shelly was challenged on November 18, 2005 OVW House Show by Fuji Cakes, but this time in a singles match, of course Shelly picked up the win over Fuji Cakes. Shelly lost to Christy Hemme and Matt Cappotelli in a 3 on 2 Mixed Tag Team match, Shelly partners were Beth Phoenix and Aaron Stevens. In late December, 2005, Shelly and Beth Phoenix accompanied Aaron Stevens to the ring at several WWE SmackDown! house shows. Also early February 2006 Shelly Martinez and Beth Phoenix accompanied Aaron Stevens to the ring at several WWE Raw! House Shows. On January 14, 2006 at an OVW House Show from Hodgenville, Kentucky, Shelly and Beth Phoenix defeated Serena, and Venus in a Divas Tag Team Match. Beth and Shelly Martinez appeared on the January 28th episode of WWE Heat as part of the Heart Throbs Throb-o-meter section, they begin to dance in the ring with the Heart Throbs before teasing a kiss, Trevor Murdoch interupts before they kiss, and the next match began. At the February 22, 2006 OVW TV Tapings, Shelly came to ringside and attacked Sosay in a match that feautured Elijah Burke vs Robbie Dawber. Since then Shelly had been obsessed with Paul Birchall. At the March 4, 2006 OVW TV Tapings Shelly got in a catfight with Cherry after Cherry interfiered during a Paul Birchall match. On March 8, 2006 OVW TV Tapings Shelly got in a catfight with Beth Phoenix because Paul Birchall came to ringside and Beth started slapping him, which made Shelly mad. At the March 18, 2006 OVW TV Tapings Shelly lost to Beth Phoenix.
