Athletes - Sick Nick Mondo

"Sick" Nick Mondo was born Matt Burns and is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Trained by Al Snow, Mondo made his professional wrestling debut in March 1999. Regarded as one of the most gifted hardcore wrestlers to grace the squared circle, Mondo's wrestling career was cut short when he retired because of some injuries he had sustained on July 26, 2003 and some previous nagging hand injuries. During the second round of CZW's (Combat Zone Wrestling) Tournament of Death, CZW owner and wrestler John Zandig performed the Mother F'n Bomb off of a roof and through a stack of tables and tube lights on Mondo. However, Zandig went through the tables first meaning Mondo had an almost unbroken fall from the roof to the concrete. Suffering a serious puncture wound in his back, Mondo went on to finish the match and the tournament, being rewarded the Tournament of Death trophy. During his career, Mondo held the CZW Iron Man title and the CZW Tag Team titles along with Ric Blade. Now retired from wrestling, Mondo has recently completed a degree in filmmaking and has a series of feature length and short films; including 'Unscarred' A biography of his wrestling career. 'Fighting the Still Life' a feature length DV film and 'The Orb' a short 16mm film.

More related to the sport, Matt Burns is a close friend of current WWE superstar "Ken Kennedy." Kennedy also features a roll in one of Matt's most recent films. Matt is also a big fan of former ECW Superstar, Sabu.
