| Steve Chilcott, a catcher from Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, CA, was drafted by the New York Mets as the first overall pick in the 1966 Major League Baseball draft, ahead of Arizona State outfielder Reggie Jackson. Chilcott played six seasons in the minor leagues before suffering career-ending injuries. Chilcott was the first number one overall draft choice never to play a major league game.
