Steve Scott (born May 5, 1956) is an American athlete who set an American Record of 3:47.69 in the mile. He is the greatest miler in American history.

Steve went to and ran at the Universtiy of California, Irvine. He still holds many school records and the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational is named after him. Scott ran 136 sub-4:00 miles in his career, more than any other runner in history. He later became the head men's and women's cross country and track coach at Cal State San Marcos. In 1994 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but underwent surgery and made a full recovery.
