Steve Soderstrom is a former U.S. baseball player. He was born Stephen Andrew Soderstrom on April 3, 1972 in Turlock, California. He attended Turlock High School. Dan Reichert also attended Turlock High. Soderstrom went on to pitch for Fresno State University. Kevin Appier, Randy Asadoor, Larry Barnes, Rich Bordi, Brant Brown, Warren Brusstar, Jared Fernandez, Eric Fox, Mark Gardner, Shawn Gilbert, Dan Gladden, Tom Goodwin, Steve Hosey, Ron Johnson, Bobby Jones, Josh Labandeira, Terry Pendleton, Adam Pettyjohn, Dick Ruthven, Jim Slaton, Dennis Springer, Buzz Stephen, Bob Stoddard, Steve Wapnick, Jeff Weaver, Jason Wood, Frenchy Bordagaray, Tex Clevenger, Pete Dalena, Lee Gregory, Dean Hartgraves, John Hoover, Chuck Nieson, Erik Schullstrom, Earl Smith, Jimy Williams, Ted Wills and Eddie Zosky all went to Fresno as well, so Soderstrom was definitely coming out of one of the best baseball schools in the country.

The draft

He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 15th Round (402nd overall) of the 1990 amateur draft. He didn't sign. Then, in 1993, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants sixth overall in the 1993 amateur entry draft.

After the draft

He spent three years in the Giants' organization before getting to the Major Leagues. The 6'3", 215 pound righthander made his Major League debut on September 17, 1996. He only lasted in the Majors for 10 days, as his final ML game was on September 27, 1996. Over those ten days, he started all three of the games he pitched in, compiling a 2-0 record while giving up 16 hits in 13 2/3 innings and gaining an ERA of 5.27. He walked six and struck out 9.
