Travis Lee Hafner (born June 3, 1977) is a designated hitter/first baseman who currently plays for the Cleveland Indians. He throws right handed, and bats left handed. A native of Sykeston, North Dakota, he attended Cowley County College and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1996. Popular nickname for him is "Pronk" which stands for "Half-Project/Half-Donkey."

Hafner has developed into one of the better hitters in Major League Baseball, showing excellent power to go with his top-notch plate discipline. He is a career .293 batter with 76 home runs and 263 RBIs in 391 games.

In July of 2005 he was hit on the cheekbone by White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle and was placed on the 15 day disabled list by the Indians. He returned to the team and finished the season batting .305, with 33 homeruns and 108 runs batted in.

Travis finished 5th in the A.L. MVP voting in 2005.

"Pronk"

When Hafner was with Texas, a few players began calling him "The Project," based on his potential. After joining the Indians, teammates tagged him "Big Donkey," a knock on his lumbering style in the field.

Pronk will explain the rest.

"One day," he said. "Bill Selby, called me Project and Donkey and I said, 'You can't call me one, pick one or put them together. Call me Donkjet or Pronk.' And he said, 'OK, Pronky.' It was El Pronko for a couple days. Now there's all kinds of versions. There's Pronkasauras. Pronkicito. Pronkitis. El Pronko. Ze Pronk. Le Pronk. T Pronk."

"I love it," Hafner said. "It's kind of cool to have a nickname, especially one that's off the wall. I think little kids like to say it."
