Troy Murphy (born May 2, 1980 in Morristown, New Jersey) is a professional basketball player, currently playing power forward for the National Basketball Association's Golden State Warriors. The Warriors drafted Murphy with the 14th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. Murphy grew up in Sparta, New Jersey. He attended the Delbarton School for four years before moving on to the University of Notre Dame, where he was a two-time consensus All-American before declaring himself for the 2001 NBA Draft.

Professional career

Murphy is currently the starting power forward for the Warriors. A solid rebounder - Murphy ranked 5th in rebounding and 10th in double-doubles for the 2004-05 season - and reliable outside shooter, he is often criticized for his immaturity and soft play on the court. A volatile competitor he has been involved in several highly publicized confrontations with NBA enforcers such as Dale Davis (during his rookie year), and future Hall of Famer Karl Malone.

Personal

Murphy is an avid rap fan and close friend of 'N Sync band member Joey Fatone.
